Deposit Summary
stratabound Cu-Co-Ag-Zn mineralisation at disconformity at base of the Whyalla Sandstone, mainly in underlying brecciated black shales of Tapley Hill Formation. Resource 25 Mt @ 1.3%Cu beneath 400m of sedimentary cover.
Deposit Description
EMMIE BLUFF, stratabound copper-cobalt-silver mineralisation located in the cover sequence above the Emmie Bluff NE IOCG-type deposit (mindep # 8311) at depth below surface of ~400m. Drilling in 1989 identified mineralisation in host Neoproterozoic Tapley Hill Formation over an area ~2km long by 1km wide, and parallel to NW-SE orientated structural trends in the basement.
Copper sulphides dominated by chalcocite were concentrated in porous strata and breccia clasts above and below a Marinoan disconformity of the Whyalla Sandstone, but principally in the underlying brecciated, black dolomitic and graphitic shale of the Tapley Hill Formation.
Mount Isa Mines Ltd outlined a resource of ~24Mt @ 1.3% copper beneath 400m of Neoproterozoic, and younger sedimentary cover. There were significant silver (10g/t), cobalt (600ppm) and minor zinc credits. The mineralisation may be sourced from and reflect the basement mineralisation. A commissioned 1995 study using an assumed resource size of 33Mt concluded that at depth of ~400m, an in-situ grade of 3-4%Cu was required to make an underground operation an economically viable proposition.
In 2007 Argo Exploration Ltd drilled 3 holes ~2.5km to the NW of hole SAE6 to identify a similar style mineralisation at the same stratigraphic level, and over a distance of 2.6km. The mineralisation was considered to represent a northern extension of the Emmie Bluff stratabound Kupferschiefer-style mineralisation. The ironstone bodies in IHAD2 and IHAD3 were interpreted as having a generally horizontal disposition, possibly representing an in-situ hydrothermal/metasomatic ironstone or a large rafted exotic block. The Tapley Hill Formation returned a mineralized interval of 1.5m averaging 1.12% Cu, 17.4 g/t Ag, 0.17% Pb and 0.37% Zn (Argo December Quarterly Report, 2007).
Coda Minerals Ltd provided an update on its ongoing drillng program at the Emmie Bluff prospect. Assays recieved confirm the continuity of mineralisation, establishing significant mineralisation extensions from historical holes.
Drilling defined major extensions of Emmie Bluff copper-cobalt mineralisation
Lateral extent of over 4.5km2 confirmed
Mineralisation extent extended by up to 830m in three directions, including new intercepts of 2.05m at 4.09CuEq and 3.49m at 2.49%CuEq.
All holes collared within Emmie Bluff Target to date have encountered mineralisation.
Maiden JORC 2012 Compliant Mineral Resource estimate process to commence shortly.
