Deposit Description
SCRUBBERS CAMP, historic diggings developed in 1866 at the junction of Coglin, and Ulooloo Creeks in an area with surface strewn with ironstone, and vein-quartz carrying shows of blue and green copper carbonates, also chalcopyrite, bornite, and iron and manganese oxides. Scattered shafts revealed quartz veins carrying copper carbonates, with main shaft on a 1.2m wide copper lode. Host was soft, clayey calcareous siltstone, limestone, with thin sandstone bands of the Skillogalee Dolomite. Records exist for production of a 6 tonne parcel at ~20% Cu. Interest turned to gold with the discovery of alluvial gold in 1870, with the area subsequently amalgamated into the declared Ulooloo Goldfield.
