Deposit Summary
surface shows of ferruginous manganese oxide rock in host metasediment/BIF of the Lower Middleback Jaspilite. Reconnaissance drilling confirmed up to 5 ore horizons, with many intersections >14%Mn, and with elevated Fe.
Deposit Description
JAMIESON TANK, prominent 9km long NNE-trending linear magnetic anomaly drill tested to confirm a manganese prospect located in the Cleve Uplands on poorly exposed 10 km strike length of manganiferous banded iron formation (BIF) of the Lower Middleback Jaspilite. Drill testing in CP and SJPD prefix holes (25-50) gave assays for MnO of up to 30%, and Fe ranging from 15-60% Fe. Wide spaced company drilling over a 5km strike length in 2008-2010 confirmed up to 5 separate horizons of manganiferous rock, with many intersections >14%Mn. Also zones of elevated Fe, with best assay 14m @ 35%Fe. Drilling to determine a resource is underway (www.monaxmining.com.au).
Testwork completed in 2018 by Kemetco involving leaching of the manganese from drill samples to remove deleterious elements followed by precipitation of electrolytic manganese dioxide showed the manganese ore as capable of making an EMD product with Mn content >92%, which is the required standard for use in alkaline and lithium ion batteries. Based on a target of 8-12%Mn, and 208 drill holes on a >6km strike length a JORC exploration target is in the order of 15-25Mtonne.
