Deposit Summary
6m chimney of massive hematite, cavernous, minor quartz veining in host limey sandy shale beds of the Umberatana group. Drilling identified 1.5m thick iron-rich limey shale at the stratigraphic level of the chimney.
Deposit Description
DEVILS CHIMNEY, 6m high chimney of massive hematite, cavernous in part, dip 60-70 N, with narrow quartz veins. Nearby were four indefinite, limey beds of sandy shale, which also showed surface enrichment. Drilling identified a 1.5 m thick iron-rich limey shale of the Umberatana Group as the stratigraphic equivalent of the chimney, and demonstrate that there was no significant depth extent of massive hematite.
