Deposit Summary
shear-hosted Cu- mineralisation with anomalous REE-Au-U in host Lower Cambrian limestone near contact with Marinoan Wonoka Formation. Drilling identified resource of ~10,000t @ 1.25%Cu. Metal source possible mafic intrusive.
Deposit Description
RADFORD CREEK NORTH, location reported as Hundred Kanyacka, section 98, and 14km from Gordon. 3 shallow prospecting shafts sunk in 1900 on a copper show. Probable 3 pits identified ~1km north of the Radford Creek mine. Worked in the early 1900s in 3 shallow pits on copper carbonates show on a lode to 1m wide adjacent to a shear separating Lower Cambrian limestone from shale of the Marinoan Wonoka Formation. No recorded production has been determined.
From 1994-1999 exploration was completed by Geo Developments PL in and around the old mine area. Mapping, drilling (16 holes for 265 m), and trenching delineated a zone of copper mineralisation to a depth of 30m, and strike distance on surface of 100m. A resource estimate was 10,000 tonne at 1.25%Cu.
The area exhibited anomalous geochemistry of Fe, Mn, Cu, Pb, Zn, Co, REE, and weak Au-U. Essentially a supergene or residual deposit, with original metal enrichment of shear/lithological contact related to an intrusive body, possibly mafic to ultramafic, with associated hydrothermal activity. The proposed igneous source was designated as the Radford Creek Diatreme, with presumed kimberlitic, lamprophyric affinities. Soil geochemical Pb-Zn anomaly identified by Auroch Minerals Ltd in 2018.
