Deposit Description
TAURUS, target identified by OZ Minerals as a coincident prominent NW-trending gravity, and high amplitude magnetic anomaly. It is located NW of the distinctive birds-eye magnetic complex of the White Hill Igneous Complex.
Modelling of the magnetic profile indicated a steeply dipping tabular body as source. Drilling identified a sequence of variably sheared mafic and metasedimentary rocks. Lithology included granite, felsic gneiss, pelite, graphitic schist, dolostone, metabasalt, mafic and felsic pegmatite.
Mineralisation included broad intervals of low grade values of copper, iron, and platinum-palladium in zones of massive replacement magnetite, vein breccia, and coarse grained mafic intrusive. Reported drill hole intersections included 107m @ 0.13%Cu, 0.15g/tPGE, 121m @ 0.5g/tPGE, 15m @ 1g/tPt, 0.66g/tPd. Exact location of mineralised holes is unknown, with site for TAURUS-4 water bore used herein.
Mineralisation paragenesis was iron metasomatism with magnetite-pyrite-chalcopyrite-pyrrhotite, apatite and titanite, and later alteration characterised by pyrite, apatite, quartz, calcite, hematite, and epidote. The main iron metasomatism took the form of relatively flat-lying seams to sub-horizontal vein arrays suggesting a component of vertical extension, possible E-W shortening. Na metasomatism was defined by scaploite and albite, Ca metasomatism by diopside and actinolite.
3 diamond holes completed on IP anomalies targeting ISCG-style mineralisation. Mineralisation penetrated in hole DD16TUR016 of 2 styles, as numerous late-stage, undeformed, thin sulphide-rich veins, mainly chalcopyrite and pyrrhotite associated with magnetite, pyrite, amphibole and chlorite, and regarded as characteristic of ISCG-style mineralisation, and intervals of magnetite-dominant alteration. Best intercepts in hole 16; 9m at 0.41%Cu from 242m. Elevated REE values are associated with the magnetite-rich domains.
